Create Without Limits

Founded in 2012 by a team of seasoned I.A.T.S.E. Local 728 Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians, Quasar Science was born in a modest Gold Room on one of the oldest studio lots in Los Angeles, California. With over 100 years of combined experience lighting movie sets, we made it our mission to reduce the burden of heavy cables, aiming to make the lighting process more efficient and lightweight.

At the time, incandescent bulbs were becoming harder to source as they were phased out, while consumer LED bulbs were still in their infancy and not suited for filmmaking. We thought, “Someone needs to make color-accurate, flicker-free LED bulbs!”—and that’s how it all began.

We also pioneered retrofit LED tubes, which quickly gained popularity and became one of our most recognized products. As filmmakers started using these tubes as standalone fixtures, we realized that this might just be the LED solution we had been searching for all along.
